Sustainability

From Pitch To Purpose

Every season, millions of football shirts and sports apparel are discarded or destroyed—not to mention the constant flood of new merchandise that makes us forget the jerseys we already own. Too often, these pieces end up in landfills, contributing to an ever-growing waste problem. Instead of letting football heritage fade away, our founders, Nicole Bekkers and Matthijs Smit, set out to find a sustainable solution—one that extends the lifespan of football shirts while keeping their stories alive. That’s how FC88 was born: transforming old kits into fresh, wearable pieces that honor the game without harming the planet.

Sustainable Production

Sustainability isn’t just about what we upcycle—it’s about how we do it. Every FC88 piece is crafted in Europe, ensuring ethical production, fair wages, and high-quality craftsmanship. By keeping our operations local, we reduce our carbon footprint and avoid the wasteful practices of mass production. Each item is carefully upcycled in small batches, giving football shirts a second life while embracing a slow-fashion mindset.

But sustainability is more than just materials—it’s about people. That’s why our products are handcrafted in our studio, where local artisans and refugees gain valuable skills, build confidence, and take their first steps toward a new future. Every FC88 item is not just a product, but a story of craftsmanship, community, and second chances—on and off the pitch.
